Damiki Hydra

The Hydra has a solid salt impregnated body with 24 individually molded tentacles. By molding the tentacles with the balls on the end, it forces them to open with the slightest water movement causing the tentacles to dance around. The Hydra can be fished Texas rigged, Carolina rigged, weight-less, Neko rigged, on a football head, as a Jig trailer, or any way you want.

My favorite way to fish this is weightless hooked on the back end. Those you would fish a Gary Yamamoto IKA. Hook it on the back end and bounce it on the bottom. These soft plastic baits are awesome, try them out you'll love it. They come in 9 fish catching colors, in 3 & 4 inches in length.

P-Line Floroclear

Floroclear is another addition to P-Line's family of premium lines. With P-Line Floroclear's flourocarbon coating the line is virtually invisible once it enters the water. This gives anglers the advantage of a more stealthy presentation, which will guarantee more strikes and hookups. With a special silicone treatment, Floroclear has reduced memory and increased castability. From small finesse baits for bass to huge plugs for stripers in the surf, this line just plain casts.

This combination of the copolymer core and a flourocarbon outer layer, an angler have the benefit of both worlds. The P-Line Floroclear can be used for both spinning and baitcasting gear when a delicate presentation is key and in need for quite a strong line that won't break. The best thing about this line, especially with the light line, is the flourocarbon coating which make this line virtually invisible. This line is great for clear water conditions.

These stand-outs deliver a level of smoothness, power and performance that's unmatched by any other reels in their class.

Daiwa Saltist

With its rugged,"Full Metal Jacket" all-metal construction and rigid, one-piece aluminum frame, the Daiwa Saltist is a must have for any serious saltwater angler. The Saltist has 4 ball bearings and a roller bearing; powerful, high-strength alloy gears; dual anti-reverse systems; dual-position power handle; and aluminum rod clamp for superior performance. Special CRBB anti-corrosion spool bearing are shielded to keep grit and abrasives out and last up to twelve times longer in a saltwater environment. The Saltist also has stainless grease-impregnated fiber washers for super-smooth drag with up to 22% greater drag max than similar reels. Saltist gears are machined from Daiwa's exclusive high-strength alloy stock for a perfect match of strength and smooth feel. With a powerful ratio and rigid support, they deliver up to 30% more winding power than similar reels. Line recovery in inches per handle turn.

Features of the Saltist include: Rugged, all-metal construction with rigid, one-piece alumininum frame with total of 4 ball bearing CRBB shielded, corrosion-resistant spool bearings, high-strength alloy gears, up to 30%.

Final Take: I have the 30H, in comparison to an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 6000 series reel, it is the same size in width but smaller than the Abu Garcia in height. Most of the reel is made out of aluminum which makes it rock solid and no sacrifice in weight at only 17.1 oz. It holds the same amount of line as the SL30 series reel, but smaller in overall size. The spool sits low, so thumbing the spool is much like casting a bass reel. I highly recommended this reel. ($169.99 - buy it now)

PowerPro Braided Line

There are so many choices these days in fishing lines. There's a plethora of mono, hybrid, fused and then the braided line. There are fishing lines for every applications and situations.

PowerPro to me, is the best when it comes to braided lines. PowerPro braid is strong, and yet is fairly limp compare to the other brands. It comes in a wide range of pound tests and in 3 different colors. Braided lines are strands of fiber forming a regular diagonal patten down the entire length of the spool. PowerPro is braided using 4 strands, where each is composed of scores of thin Spectra fibers. While a 3 strand line comes out flat, the PowerPro comes out square, but due to its thin diameter it appears to round.

PowerPro is extremely strong, durable and thin in diameter. A 50lb braid is the same diameter as a 12lb mono. And while some braided lines will dig into the spool, this is not a problem with the PowerPro. In every retrieve the line in laid nicely onto various baitcast reels.

PowerPro is great when fishing around structures, covers and when a thin tough line is needed for those toothy fish. I especially like to use the PowerPro when casting out frogs and buzzbaits. I also like to use when flipping and pitching jigs in heavy covers.

PowerPro was developed to be an extremely tough line but without sacrificing much of the other characteristics of high quality mono lines. PowerPro is a great braided line that does an excellent job in certain applications in both freshwater and saltwater fishing.

Stanley Sidewinder

The Sidewinder's soft ringed body sinks slower and with a life-like movement that bass can't stand. Multiple rings surround the soft bait from tip to tail, trapping air as it's cast and giving it slight bouyancy. As it falls, the tiny air bubbles escape allowing the bait to sink slowly which maximizes its visibility in the strike zone.

What makes the Sidewinder so effective is the air chamber in the tail. For muddy water or night fishing, you can put a rattle in the chamber for added attraction. But, when using the Sidewinder without a rattle, the chamber becomes an air pocket that causes the tail to stand straight up. A slight shake of the rod tip allows trapped air bubbles in the rattle chamber to scape. The Sidewinder resting on the bottom is nice imitation of a crawfish. A slight twitch of the rod tip will release air bubbles, making the bait breathe much like a crawfish does when laying in hiding.

With the air chamber in the tail causing it to stand up, the bait is ideal for shakey heads. This bait is also great for Texas rig, Carolina rig or dead-sticking. The slow sinking Sidewinder can also be fished near the top, it can snake over or through thick covers. The tip of the hook can be exposed yet hidden in the rings, making it weedless. The Sidewinder comes in 5 1/2 inch, which can be trim down to shorter length and comes with 8 in a bag.
